Photo Handling & Cleaning

The long-term survival of photographic materials goes beyond using proper storage products. The delicate nature of prints and negatives requires proper handling and cleaning techniques.

Photographic conservators use disposable nitrile and white cotton gloves to prevent damaging oils and finger prints from harming their collections. They apply cleaning and preservation methods that require specialized photo cleaning products prior to storage.

Archivists who identify and catalog photographic collections must select the right acid-free photo marking supplies for that purpose.
