Larger objects require a more heavy-duty mounts made from acid-free materials. Clear Acrylic Rods and Vivak Polyester Sheets are a favorite of mount makers because they are clear, inert, and easily formed with heat.

Storage mounts created by archivists and conservators don't have to be as minimalistic and include custom-carved Ethafoam ® cavities easily carved with Foam Knives and Hot Knives, using Contour Gauge to replicate artifact's original shape.
